Kuya J Restaurant Food Review

Kuya J is a Filipino restaurant with mall branches nationwide. One is at Abreeza Mall in Davao City.

What I tried:

Crispy Shrimps (Php 195)

Grilled Scallops (Php 230)

Kare-kare (Php 399)

Iced Tea

Crispy Shrimps

The shrimps weren't crispy at all and you can tell that they weren't fresh either. The lovely vinegar sauce wasn't enough to compensate for the greasiness of the shrimp's batter.

Grilled Scallops

One of the house specialties is the Grilled Scallops. As to why, I have no idea. The scallops were too small to actually be tasted beneath all the butter and cheese topping. Some scallops were almost burnt.

Kare-kare

As for the kare-kare, I've had better and at a lower price. The serving looked sad and meager. The sauce lacked richness and the nutty aroma wasn't even there. The meat was tender enough but lacked flavor.

Not a satisfying meal for me. The food didn't justify it's price and the iced tea was too sweet. Perhaps, the food'll be better next time.

DINING TIPS

#1

Try to arrive at the restaurant an hour before or after lunch/dinner time to be catered by the staff while they aren't busy yet.

If you have time, check the restaurant's menu online first to know about how each dish is traditionally prepared and what to expect
