Seoul Ga Korean Restaurant Food Review

Seoul Ga is one of the many restaurants situated at the Victoria Plaza Compound along J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City.

What I tried:

Ojingeo bokkeum: Spicy stir-fried squid

Chicken Gangjung: Sweet crispy fried chicken

Seol Long Tang (Php 250) Jap chae (Php 280) Samgyeopsal (Php 350)

Seoul Ga's Ojingeo bokkeum was satisfyingly hot, spicy and full of flavor. Although the pieces of squid were tough, the vegetables were crunchy and the roasted sesame seeds elevated the taste of the whole dish.

Despite the taste of reused cooking oil, I still enjoyed this dish very much. The chicken was crunchy outside but juicy inside. I loved the sweet and spicy glazing, the peanuts and roasted sesame seeds that stuck to the sauce. My Korean fried chicken craving was satisfied by Seoul Ga's Chicken Gangjung.

Seol Long Tang is Korean Ox Bone noodle soup. I expected the soup to be heavy just like the Pinoy’s Nilagang Baka, but to my surprise, it was light and without the sheen of too much beef fat on the broth. The noodles were like a firmer version of misua. The ox meat was tender and without the strong scent of animal. This soup is perfect any time of the day.

The noodles used in Jap Chae are made of sweet potato starch: a healthier and gluten-free version of pansit. It looked like thicker sotanghon but with the firmness of an egg noodle. Vegetable-filled and mushroom laden, the dish was delicious although there was too much pepper.

The strips of meat were sliced and cooked evenly. With lettuce, garlic, and an assortment of side dishes, you can never go wrong with crispy but juicy pork belly. All that’s left to do is to help yourself :D

The side dishes vary and largely depend on their local availability. There was kimchi, sweet potato, tofu, colorful vegetable tempura, eggplant, and radish: all of which are very tasty and filling. Complementary iced coffee was also served by the end of meal.

The servings were small considering the high prices of the dishes. The smoke from the samgyeopsal and hotpots sticks to your clothes and hair. Your seatmate would probably go hungry just by sitting next to you. :D
