Nanay's Barbecue Food Review
Located along Crumb St., in front of Partner's Chinese Restaurant, Nanay's Barbecue is the latest grill in Digos City.
Organized in separate trays labeled with the corresponding prices, Nanay's Barbecue menu is a fresher and neater contrast to the traditional barbecue skewers thrust on banana trunks and covered with plastic cellophane.
Aside from barbecues on stick, they also offer tinolang isda, tuna belly, and tuna panga.
What I tried:
Chicken Liver or "Atay" (Php 10)
Chicken intestine or "Isaw" (Php 6)
Chicken gizzard or "Batikolon" (Php 10)
Chicken skin
Pork barbecue (Php 7)
Each barbecue we tasted was perfectly seasoned and grilled. There was not a single bite of burnt or tough meat. And with just the right amount of sauce, you can taste the flavor of each variant especially the savory chicken liver. The batikolon was chewy but more tender than any other batikolon barbecue that I've tried. I would've liked the isaw to be crispier/crunchier but it was gratifying nonetheless. The chicken skin was really juicy and irresistible.
Upon asking, I found that the pig used for the pork barbecue was fed with organic feeds. I was expecting the meat to be tastier than the usual pork barbecue. However, one bite and I knew that the marinade used was an overly sweet commercial product which overpowered the flavor of the meat. Although I get that most Filipinos have a sweet tooth, I hate eating foods that are not supposed to be sweet. This pork barbecue was tolerable than most versions but if you're taste is anything like mine, I would advise you not to order this pork barbecue or perhaps tell the waitress not to put too much sauce on your orders.
They had me at the chicken liver, gizzard, and isaw. I will definitely come back to try their grilled tuna variants and tinola.
